Dana Mueller Exhibits in the South -- Visual Art Exchange, Raleigh
German-born and Massachusetts-based photographer Dana Mueller has been working in the South, as we noted here, making a series of photographs of Southern landscapes in which German prisoners of war during World War II were held and did Southern things like work in cotton fields.
Now, Mueller is exhibiting her work in the South, with images in a show now up at Raleigh, NC's Visual Art Exchange, at its new location at 309 W. Martin Street, on view through April 26th.
The show is called Unfettered, and was juried by Paul Bright, Assistant Director & Curator at the Hanes Art Gallery, Wake Forest University.
Life is full of ironies, so, of course, the work Mueller is showing in Raleigh is not from her images made in the South but -- like the image above (Hellbach, Ernstthal am Rennsteig, Germany 2010) -- from work she made back in Germany, from a portfolio called At the Edge of the Village.
Mueller is doing fine work. Having her work up this side of the Mason-Dixon Line is a fine thing, and worthy to be celebrated, because otherwise, you have to go to Massachusetts or Paris.
